Laugh-a-minute early-90s Maidenhead United fanzine 'Born & Bred' - contributors to which included GMOSC's very own Macleod (M) and a certain 'young turk' - used to have a regular feature called 'That Man Talks Bollocks'. I was reminded of this when reading last week's Maidenhead Advertiser.
Contained within the back page article about MUFC Ltd's dire form (two league wins since August, none at home) and descent into a relegation battle, manager Johnson Hippolyte was quoted as follows -
“there can be no excuses now”
And yet, after flicking past the birthday announcements and obituaries, I was to read another article (on pg 117, to be precise) in which the very same J Hippolyte was quoted as saying -
“whether it’s luck or confidence or injuries, I don’t know, but we can’t just get the rub of the green”
Luck. Confidence. Injuries. Rub of green. Do they not sound like excuses to you?!
Carl Taylor used to come out with similar nonsense in the paper and got heavily criticised as a result. No surprise, however, that Drax continues to be seemingly beyond reproach. In fact, he's probably due a contract extension!
Hey ho, GMOSC tells it like it is. And so, Drax, like Taylor (plus - according to 'Born & Bred' - Matthew Lorenzo, Chris Ewers, Walter Gammie, Tim Cook, Jon Swan, Jeff King, Beau Reynolds et al) it's official ...
YOU TALK BOLLOCKS MATE!!! *
The counterweight to Drax's bullsh!t came in the same Advertiser edition, however, with prospective Windsor Phoenix FC Chariman Kevin Stott quoted, on pg 116, as saying -
“the budget I set will be the budget. Otherwise we will start slipping back towards the mistakes of the past”
Amen to that.
* Please note that, not unlike 'Born & Bred', all GMOSC articles reflect only the view of the author, and the right to reply is offered to all concerned. Our intention is to enlighten not offend. Happy reading ;-)
